REI Half Dome 2+ Tent

Gear Review: REI Half Dome SL 2+

REI’s Half Dome SL 2+ backpacking tent is one of my favorite tents so far. Even though it is rated for two people, I love taking it on solo adventures as it gives me plenty of room to move around in and store my gear. I also love the fact that it has two doors, lots of interior pockets and loops for storing things, and roomy vestibules on either side of the tent. Even though it is only listed as a three-season tent, I have used it for winter backpacking without issue. One of my favorite features are the two closable ceiling vents that provide airflow and help prevent condensation buildup. The tent is priced at $349.00 and includes a rainfly, footprint, guylines with tighteners, pole-repair tube, pole bag, 8 stakes and stake bag. This is cheaper than most other tents in its class. With a minimum trail weigh of 3 lbs. 15 oz., it isn’t a back breaker even for a solo hiker.

Cons

The only thing I find strange about this tent is the oversized stuff sack. While not a deal breaker by any means, it does seem odd to have so much extra space inside the bag.
